Pedestrian accidents: Woman's leg amputated after ATM mishap

A woman and her adult son were visiting an ATM when they were suddenly pinned by a car. The incident took place in a beach town some distance away from Miami, but these types of pedestrian accidents can occur anywhere. The crash was so horrific that the ATM surveillance video had to be edited before it could be released to the public.

Just after lunchtime, a 63-year-old mother and her 32-year-old son approached an ATM machine at a local bank. Right at that time, an 81-year-old woman lost control of the vehicle that she was driving in the bank parking lot. The older woman may have hit the accelerator instead of the brake when she tried to park, causing her to crash into the pedestrians at the ATM.

The mother was pinned between the car and the wall, and her son was pinned beneath the car when he tried to jump out of the way. Both had to be taken to a nearby hospital to be treated for their injuries. The mother's right leg was crushed in the accident and had to be amputated, and the son had both a broken arm and leg. The driver was uninjured but received a citation for careless driving.

Pedestrian accidents can happen for various reasons but are often the cause of serious injuries in Miami and other Florida cities. Anyone who has been injured in such an incident might wish to speak with a personal injury attorney. This lawyer can advise his or her client on the best way to pursue damages in a personal injury lawsuit to help recover lost wages, medical costs and other financial loss incurred because of the accident.
