Is it safer to drive a newer vehicle?

There are multiple factors that determine the severity of a Florida car crash. From the speed of the two vehicles to the direction that a car is facing at the time of impact, there are multiple things that ultimately determine the nature of a victim's injuries or the damage done to the car itself.

Newer vehicles come with certain protections not found in older vehicles. For this reason, collisions involving older model vehicles will often result in more extensive damage. Simply put, newer cars are more likely to protect its occupants, while manufacturers designed older cars to ensure that the car survived a collision.

Car versus man

A few decades ago, car manufacturers made vehicles with the durability of the vehicle itself as the main priority. Only recently have manufacturers started designing vehicles to protect the interests of the individuals inside the car. There are many reasons why modern drivers are safer than ever before, and these reasons include the following:

  • Modern drivers are more likely to use seatbelts regularly, which increases the effectiveness of an airbag.
  • Newer designs include the frame as part of the car, making occupants safer during collisions.
  • Designs now include crush zones, which absorb and transfer the energy from a crash.

These changes in the design of most newer vehicles explains why it's often more expensive to repair a vehicle now than it used to be. While it may cost more to repair a newer car, chances are, you are safer and less likely to suffer injuries in a collision than you would in an older vehicle.

Your safety and recovery after car accidents

Whether you suffered relatively minor injuries in a rear-end collision or experienced significant trauma in a very serious crash, you could have the right to compensation. Regardless of the type of car you were driving or the safety features included with your vehicle, when you suffer because of the negligence of another Jacksonville driver, you have the right to pursue recovery.

You may be unsure of the factors that caused your crash or led to your specific injuries, but you don't have to find those answers on your own. You may find it beneficial to seek a complete understanding of your legal options, which may include the choice to pursue financial compensation through a personal injury claim. From recovery for damage to your personal property or medical bills, it is prudent to assess your needs and take quick action to secure the restitution you deserve.
