Florida car accidents: 7 injured, 1 killed in head-on crash

All drivers in Florida have likely experienced moments of frustration due to slower moving traffic. Often in those situations, however, the best option is to remain patient as attempts to pass slower traffic in certain situations -- such as when there are only two lanes of traffic -- can lead to car accidents if proper care is not taken. Unfortunately, police believe that a recent fatal crash was caused by a driver who was attempting to pass a tractor-trailer.

The incident happened just before 4 a.m. on a day in September. According to reports, a 28-year-old man was driving a sedan east on a Florida road when he attempted to pass a tractor-trailer by entering the westbound lanes. Unfortunately, police say that he struck a westbound van head-on while trying to do so.

A 47-year-old female passenger in the van passed away as a result of injuries suffered in the collision. The driver and two children in the van suffered serious injuries. Three people in the sedan, a 28-year-old woman and three children were also seriously injured, while the driver was uninjured.

It is unclear if criminal charges are expected following this tragic car accident, but the investigation into the Florida crash is likely ongoing. In the meantime, the family of the deceased woman may be wondering how they will cope with both the emotional and financial ramifications of their loss. Additionally, the injured occupants of the van and sedan must recover from their own injuries. In situations like this, the financial situation created by medical expenses, lost wages and funeral expenses can quickly become overwhelming. Fortunately victims of car accidents caused by another person's negligence have the option to file a civil suit against the driver believed to have been responsible, potentially resulting in a monetary award if successfully presented.
